-Midnight-
Sylvia Black and Jet reach the top of the stairs leading to the Attic and see Miss Peach and Monsieur Brunette standing near the back of the room.
“Oh hell no,” Sylvia shoots the window behind Monsieur Brunette, scaring both him and Miss Peach
“Please,” Monsieur Brunette begs, “You don’t understand.”
“What I understand is that you are supposed to be dead.” Sylvia says, “And the minute you show up again Scott goes missing.”
Sylvia grabs Miss Peach by the hair and pulls her into a headlock.
“What are you doing?” asks Jet
“Start talking or your pretty little friend is going to get a bullet in her brain.” Sylvia says putting the gun to Miss Peach’s head.
“Alphonse,” Miss Peach says, “Tell them everything you know.”
“Listen to your little girlfriend, Alphonse,” Sylvia says, “You know that the next bullet will be for you. Only this time I’ll make sure that you’re dead.”
“I didn’t take Scott.” Monsieur Brunette says
“You did last time.” Sylvia says
“I didn’t come here for Scott.” Monsieur Brunette shouts
“Then why did you come?” Sylvia shoves the barrel of the gun harder against Miss Peach’s head
“I came for my daughter!” Monsieur Brunette says, “I came for Miss Peach…”
Sylvia lets go of Miss Peach and lets her fall to the floor.
“That is the saddest story I have ever heard.” Sylvia points the gun at the back of Miss Peach’s head.
“It’s true!” Miss Peach shrieks, “Remember when I came asking about Helena? It’s because I’m Helena’s daughter.”
“I used to be the stable boy here.” Monsieur Brunette says picking up the photo album marked 1923. He opens it to the picture of Helena Black riding the horse. He points to the young stable boy in the background, “That’s me.”
Sylvia looks at the picture, “You got Helena pregnant?”
“Yes,” Monsieur Brunette swallows hard, “And she supposedly died after Bradford found out she was pregnant. Only she didn’t die. Helena sent me a letter several months after her alleged death. She told me she gave birth to a little girl and that she gave her up for adoption.”
“That girl was me.” Miss Peach says
“Your story is touching,” Sylvia feigns interest, “Where the hell is my son?”
“I don’t know,” Monsieur Brunette says, “Honest.”
“Then how did you and the lovely Miss Nightingale happen to appear in my Attic?” Sylvia asks
Monsieur Brunette is silent.
“I’d suggest you answer rather quickly.” Sylvia says
“I came here to ask my mother about her!” Monsieur Brunette says reluctantly
“Your mother?” asks Sylvia
“Blanche White.” Monsieur Brunette says
“She’s your mother?” Sylvia asks
“Yes.” Monsieur Brunette says, “Then I came up here after I overheard that there was a murder. Georgia helped me put everything together. It turns out she’s my daughter.”
“I want both of you to come down to the Hall with us.” Sylvia says
“You aren’t going to kill me?” Miss Peach is relieved
“You two might be useful once the police get here.” Sylvia says
Outside near the front gates of Tudor Close, Prince Azure approaches his car.
“I’m going to cut the ropes,” Prince Azure says, “But if you struggle with me I’ll have no choice but to kill you.”
Prince Azure pulls out a knife from his pocket and cuts the ropes binding Scott’s hands. As soon as the ropes are cut Prince Azure is banged over the head with a shovel. He falls forward. Scott removes his gag as he stares up at Madame Claire Rose who tightly holds onto the shovel.
“You saved me.” Scott says
“Let’s get you back inside. Your mother must be worried sick.” Madame Rose says
Scott and Madame Rose reach the front door of Tudor Close and open the doors.
“Now where is everyone?” asks Madame Rose as she looks around the Hall with Scott.
“They’re all probably trying to look for me.” Scott says
Madame Rose immediately sees the dead body in the Study, “Good heavens! Don’t go in there.”
Scott sees the outline of a figure on the floor and backs away. He looks up the staircase as he sees his mother and Jet coming down the stairs. Sylvia is holding a gun to Monsieur Brunette’s head as Miss Peach follows behind.
“That’s the man that kidnapped me.” Scott shouts
“I’m aware.” Sylvia says shoving Monsieur Brunette on his knees, “I hope your little reunion with your daughter made you happy. You won’t be having any more happy moments.”
“Stop!” a voice calls from the cellar door.
Sylvia, Jet, Miss Peach, Monsieur Brunette, Madame Rose, and Scott turn to see Mrs. White, Mr. Boddy, and Mr. Ash coming from the Cellar.
“Sylvia, you can’t kill him.” Mrs. White begs
“Because he’s your son?” Sylvia asks, “I’ve already been informed.”
“What do you care.” Monsieur Brunette says, “You’ll either kill me now or kill me later, either way my life’s complete. I found my daughter and I can already tell that this family will fall apart.”
“You’re wrong.” Sylvia says, “This family is strong and will stick close together.”
“Will they?” asks Monsieur Brunette
“Yes,” Sylvia says, “Everyone is standing with me as I put a bullet in your head. You kidnapped my son and threatened my family.”
“You are no better than Prince Azure.” Monsieur Brunette chuckles
“Excuse me?” Sylvia asks
“You and Prince Azure are the same.” Monsieur Brunette says, “He wants to kill Scott to avenge the death of his son and to get revenge on Hugh Black. You want to kill me in front of my daughter to avenge me kidnapping Scott.”
“I’m not killing you out of revenge.” Sylvia says, “I’m killing you because I am protecting my family.”
“Ah but this family will fall apart.” Monsieur Brunette says, “Because I know things.”
“You aren’t going to have a chance to tell what you know.” Sylvia says pushing the gun against the back of his head.
“I have two things to say and you can shoot me.” Monsieur Brunette says
“Humor me.” Sylvia says, “What two things do you know?”
“Claire, my mother lied about your son being dead.” Monsieur Brunette says, “Sylvia, Bryce… or shall I say Jessica, is still alive and well.”
“You bastard, how could you say something like that.” Sylvia says
Madame Rose stares at Mrs. White with hatred, “So it’s true. I knew my son was alive.”
“Claire,” Mrs. White backs away as Madame Rose lunges towards her
“And shall I add a third fact into my death bed confession?” Monsieur Brunette asks, “One of you murdered Prince Azure’s royal advisor and I know who.”
Sylvia hits Monsieur Brunette over the head with the butt of the gun. He falls forward, unconscious.
“How could you lie to me you bitch!” Madame Rose slaps Mrs. White
Jet and Scott both walk over to their mother.
“Everything is going to be alright boys.” Sylvia says
Mr. Ash and Mr. Boddy look at each other in confusion while Miss Peach rushes over to her father’s unconscious body.
“Claire,” Mrs. White says, “You can’t believe what that man said!”
“He’s your son!” Madame Rose says, “He knows the truth as well as you do!”
“I didn’t know he was alive until tonight!” Mrs. White says
“Why should we believe you,” Madame Rose shouts, “You could have been harboring him in the mansion all this time!”
“I wasn’t.” Mrs. White looks around to see all eyes on hers, “Someone has to believe me. Mr. Ash would have known he’s always checking in on everyone.”
“I didn’t see any traces of this man here,” Mr. Ash says, “In fact I thought that he was dead when Sylvia shot him the first time.”
“How did he survive?” asks Jet
“You!” Mrs. White points her finger at Mr. Boddy, “You were the one who wrapped him up in tarp at the boat dock. You could have saved him and put something else in that tarp!”
Everyone’s eyes now fall on Mr. Boddy.
“Come on now,” Mr. Boddy says, “Be reasonable.”
“It’s true.” Miss Peach speaks up, “He’s the one who lead my father and I to the mansion. He took care of my father all those weeks.”
“You can’t believe her.” Mr. Boddy says, “She’s a con like her father and her grandmother!”
“I am not a con!” Mrs. White says
“You lied about having a son.” Madame Rose says, “And you lied about the death of my son.”
“I think we all need to focus on the issue at hand.” Mr. Ash says
“The issue at hand is that Mrs. White and Mr. Boddy can’t be trusted!” Madame Rose says
“Or really?” Mr. Boddy says, “Where did you disappear to while we were looking for Scott and Prince Azure. You just magically showed up with Scott when we all got back to the Hall.”
“I was trying to protect Scott!” Madame Rose says
“She’s telling the truth.” Scott says, “She hid me in her closet.”
“And hid in there with him?” asks Mrs. White
“No,” Madame Rose says
“I ran out after I heard screaming.” Scott says
“That was me you heard.” Miss Peach says
“Then what were you doing Claire?” asks Mr. Boddy, “It was so convenient that you disappeared for such a long amount of time.”
“You want to know what I did?” asks Madame Rose
“Yes!” Mrs. White and Mr. Boddy shout in unison
“I was murdering Mr. Rivers.” Madame Rose says
Silence fills the Hall.
“Well that wraps that up.” Sylvia says
-Morning-
Mrs. White pours herself a cup of coffee and takes a seat at the Kitchen table. Mr. Ash is busy preparing scrambled eggs.
“That was some night.” Mrs. White says
“Officer Ebony called,” Mr. Ash says, “He informed me that Brunette confessed to everything, including the murder that Madame Rose committed. He will be sentenced on Tuesday.”
“What about Prince Azure?” asks Mrs. White
“Madame Rose and Scott claim that he was at the front gates with his car.” Mr. Ash says, “Both him and his car are gone.”
“You know what that means.” Mrs. White says
“He’ll be back.” Mr. Ash finishes her sentence
“We can never escape drama in this town.” Mrs. White says
“Well at least you can’t say you have a boring job.” Mr. Ash says
“Thanks for making breakfast today, Reggie.” Mrs. White says, “I didn’t think I would wake up till well after noon.”
“Haven’t you noticed something strange about Sylvia though?” asks Mr. Ash
“You mean the fact that she’s seemingly forgot that anything even happened last night?” Mrs. White asks
“It’s an eerie calmness.” Mr. Ash says
Mr. Ash shrugs as he puts the eggs on the serving cart with the other breakfast foods. He enters the Dining Room to see Sylvia Black sitting peacefully at the head of the table, Scott to her right and Jet to her left. Madame Rose sits quietly on the other end of the table with Mr. Boddy.
“Isn’t it nice to eat as a family after a good night’s rest?” asks Sylvia
“I guess…” Scott says silently
“I think today is going to be a beautiful day!” Sylvia smiles, “Mr. Ash open the windows.”
“Yes ma’am,” Mr. Ash says putting the serving dishes on the table and opening the windows to allow the spring air to blow in.
“It’s going to be an early summer.” Sylvia says, “I always love the summer. The days are long and the air is warm. I think we should throw a garden party this weekend!”
“Ma’am?” Mr. Ash is somewhat concerned, “Don’t you think we should all rest after the hectic time we’ve had?”
“I’m very happy Reggie,” Sylvia says, “Ever since the sun came out life has just turned around for the better.”
-FLASHBACK- LAST NIGHT-
Sylvia Black enters her bedroom as the clock on her nightstand chimes 4am. She kicks off her shoes and throws her purse onto her nightstand. She opens her vanity drawer and searches around until she finds a long black case. She holds the case in her hands as she stares into her reflection in the mirror. She is aware of the obvious mental breakdown she is about to have. She opens the box and sees a syringe and a bottle of morphine. She pokes the needle into the liquid and draws some into the tube. She sighs as she injects it into her arm.
-END OF FLASHBACK-
“I feel so peaceful.” Sylvia says
“I can tell,” Mr. Boddy says
“I have to get ready for school,” Jet angrily gets up from the table and storms out of the Dining Room.
“Why is he so grumpy?” asks Sylvia with a glazed look in her eyes, “It’s such a beautiful day.”
