In the Kitchen of Tudor Close, Mrs. Blanche White stands at the sink scrubbing potatoes as Mr. Ash comes in through the back door with a brown paper bag.
“There was a busy line at the store.” Mr. Ash says as he pulls out a new Kitchen Knife Set from the bag, “What shall I do with the old set?”
“Well save the knives and store them in the pantry.” Mrs. White says, “I can’t work with an incomplete knife set and wouldn’t dream of using it since a knife from that set was used to murder Hugh. The knife block will make some nice firewood for the Library.”
“I also picked up some other supplies you asked for.” Mr. Ash says as he takes the old knife set to the pantry.
Mrs. White stops scrubbing the potatoes and walks over to the bag. She pulls box of baking chocolate.
“I assume you are making some special dessert?” asks Mr. Ash from the Pantry
“Vanilla cake with chocolate frosting,” Mrs. White says, “The family needs some cheering up, what with all the bleakness of Hugh’s death.”
“You never cease to amazing me.” Mr. Ash says returning to the Kitchen
Mrs. White begins to unload the contents of the bag which includes herbs, baking powders, and a large container of ant poison.
“Madame Rose tells me that there is a nasty case of ants in the Billiard Room.” Mrs. White says, “Apparently a fruity cocktail was spilled and didn’t get cleaned up completely.”
“No matter how much ant poison you lay down, there will be no ridding of all the pests in this house.” Mr. Ash chuckles
“Unless Bradford drags his tongue across the Billiard Room floor,” Mrs. White says wiping her hands on her apron, “God willing.”
“Be nice.” Mr. Ash playfully smacks her arm
“I just hope this meeting tonight with Mr. Meadow-Brook is in our favor.” Mrs. White says pulling out a sharp Cleaver from the new knife set.
In the Study of Tudor Close, Sir Bradford Black and Mrs. Sylvia Black sit before the desk. Mr. John Boddy stands in the back of the room. Mr. Miles Meadow-Brook sits before Hugh’s desk looking over several documents.
“What do you mean you’ve misplaced the will?” Sir Bradford shouts, “These things just don’t happen! You are the damned lawyer!”
“Obviously not a very good one.” Mr. Boddy remarks
“It seems that with the sudden change of his will and other pressing matters, I may have destroyed the new copy by mistake.” Mr. Meadow-Brook says glancing at Sylvia, “It’s a simple mistake, really.”
“This house, the money, and everything in its entirety rightfully belongs to me!” Sir Bradford Black stands up and forcefully slams his palms against the desk. He quickly grabs his chest in pain and sits back down.
“Careful,” Mr. Boddy says nonchalantly, “You’re blood pressure.”
“What if I take this to court?” Sir Bradford Black asks after cooling down for a moment.
“You won’t win.” Mr. Meadow-Brook says confidently
“I’m his father.” Sir Bradford protests
“You won’t win.” Mr. Meadow-Brook repeats, “You are not in the best health and he has a wife who is. He also has two sons.”
“One of which is missing.” Sir Bradford says. Sylvia Black tightens her fist angrily.
“Regardless, he has two sons.” Mr. Meadow-Brook says shooting a look of disapproval at Bradford.
“Wait a minute,” Mr. Boddy’s face lightens up, “You mean Jet will inherit?”
“Yes,” Sylvia and Mr. Meadow-Brook say simultaneously
“That’s interesting. Excuse me,” Mr. Boddy excuses himself from the Study
“I’m not sure there is much more I can do to assist you,” Mr. Meadow-Brook says putting the documents into his briefcase and closing it.
“Thank you, Mr. Meadow-Brook,” Sylvia Black shakes his hand. Mr. Meadow-Brook gives her a reassuring squeeze.
In the Billiard Room of Tudor Close, Mr. Boddy enters to see Jet Black absent-mindedly shooting billiard balls across the table.
“I figured I’d find you here.” Mr. Boddy says
“What do you want now?” Jet asks, “Isn’t it bad enough that I have to be under the same roof as the monster that is responsible for my brother’s disappearance and my father’s murder?”
“I’m not directly responsible,” Mr. Boddy says taking a billiard cue from the wall and joining Jet in his game, “Also, I would keep that talk down about me being involved with Mrs. Peacock, unless you want me to tell her to go with Plan B.”
“What do you want from me?” Jet asks slamming his billiard cue on the table, “Other than to watch me suffer…”
“It would appear that Hugh double-crossed us.” Mr. Boddy says sinking a red ball into the corner pocket, “Either that or he has a damn good lawyer. It turns out the will that allows Bradford and I access to everything is null.”
“That’s a spot of bad luck,” Jet says sarcastically, “Looks like you’ll have to scam someone else. It’s a pity.
“Yes it is a pity,” Mr. Boddy says taking a shot at the cue ball, “For you. You are the heir to the estate and as luck would have it, I am in control of you and every move you make. You will sign over the money to Bradford, unless you want Scott to be sold as a slave on the black-market.”
“You are just going to keep manipulating me with Scott aren’t you?” Jet asks angrily
“Until I get what I want.” Mr. Boddy says replacing his billiard cue on the wall, “Think carefully about it. You don’t want to cross me.” Mr. Boddy exits the Billiard Room through the door adjacent to the Library.
At that moment, Mr. Ash enters the room with the container of Ant Poison.
“Your Aunt Claire wants to speak with you.” Mr. Ash says to Jet, “She’s in the Conservatory.”
At the Green Home, Mr. Thallo Green fries up a slice of Ham on the stove. He puts it down on a plate with some mashed potatoes and baked beans. He crosses the Hall to the Dining Room and enters. Out of shock he drops his plate to the floor. It breaks and the food spatters against the rug. Sitting at the table is Mr. Yuri Gold.
“Hello, Thallo Green,” Mr. Gold says, “Or should I say Marc Green. Not too creative. You only changed your first name.”
“What the hell are you doing here?” Mr. Green asks with fear in his eyes
“Hugh Black is dead.” Mr. Gold says plainly
“I’ve read the papers.” Mr. Green says cautiously sitting down at the table and feeling around for the gun he has underneath
Mr. Gold tosses the gun Mr. Green is looking for on the table.
“What do you want from me?” asks Mr. Green
“You haven’t guessed?” asks Mr. Gold
“I’ve no idea?” Mr. Green says
“Well,” Mr. Gold stands up, “It turns out that your sister… what name is she going by now? Jane? Yes, Jane misses her family in France.”
“You had no right to find her.” Mr. Green says angrily
“I didn’t find her.” Mr. Gold says, “She found me. She called me the evening of Hugh’s murder. Something about Miles was abusing her and she needed help.” Mr. Gold says
“She never said anything to me.” Mr. Green says distantly
“Maybe she didn’t want to get you involved.” Mr. Gold says, “After all, you were never very trustworthy.”
“She knows I would protect her from anyone.” Mr. Green says
“Maybe she didn’t want you to ‘off’ her husband.” Mr. Gold says, “You do have a habit of acting a bit over the top when it comes to enemies.”
“If that was the case we wouldn’t be having this conversation right now.” Mr. Green says
“Just know that I will be surveying your every move and that I still haven’t forgiven you for letting my father take the fall back in Paris.” Mr. Gold says
“He’s seems to have gotten back on his feet rather nicely.” Mr. Green says glancing at the gun on the table.
“It helps when you have money.” Mr. Gold says standing up
“So you just came to Hampshire to tell me that my sister trusts you and that your father is angry at me?” Mr. Green asks
“Yes,” Mr. Gold says
“I find that hard to believe since I already knew that.” Mr. Green says
“Also I want you to know that the murders in Mayfield aren’t over.” Mr. Gold says, “In fact, they’ve only begun.”
In his the Conservatory of Tudor Close, Madame Claire Rose sits on the wicker loveseat near the window alcove. Mrs. White fills a watering can in the sink near the door
“Mr. Ash said that you wanted to speak to me.” Jet says upon entering the room
“Yes,” Madame Rose says, “Please sit down I have some distressing news.” Mrs. White turns her attention to Jet.
“What’s wrong?” asks Jet as he sits down in the wicker chair near his aunt.
“It’s about the people in this house.” Mrs. White says beginning to water the plants in the plant stands near the door.
“John and Bradford?” asks Jet
“Yes,” Madame Rose frowns, “Your cousin and your grandfather are carrying with them a horrible evil.”
“I know.” Jet says lowering his head.
“Tell me,” Madame Rose touches his hand
“I can’t.” Jet says fearing that John will find out
“Then we cannot put an end to this!” Mrs. White says with fear in her eyes
“For a while I thought that their deaths would be a stop to the pandemonium in our lives.” Jet says, “But now I realize that they are more involved that we think.”
“Tell us!” Mrs. White begs, her arms shaking as water begins to spill out
Jet takes a deep breath, “Mrs. Peacock is working for them.”
Deathly silence fills the room as Madame Rose and Mrs. White try to take in the new information.
“My God,” Mrs. White clutches her chest, “This was all a scheme for Bradford to be the rightful heir to Tudor Close.”
“He was always jealous of Hugh.” Madame Rose explains, “Everyone was.”
“Even you?” asks Mrs. White
“No,” Madame Rose says, “I never cared of material possessions such as money or mansions.”
“Then what did you mean by everyone?” Jet asks
“Our sister Estelle was jealous much like Bradford was.” Madame Rose explains, “The money didn’t come from my father. It came from my mother. Upon my mother’s death after her long illness, my father greedily expected his inheritance much as Estelle did, but it was Hugh who inherited everything. My father and Estelle didn’t get a dime.”
“But they live so lavishly.” Mrs. White says with a puzzled look on her face.
“That’s because he asked for money from Hugh.” A voice says from the Conservatory doorway
At the Mayfield Divisional Police Department, Colonel Algernon Mustard sits before Commissioner Forest’s desk. He is alone in the room nervously wringing his hands. Commissioner Forest enters the room and takes a seat behind his desk.
“Algernon Mustard.” He reads off the file he holds, “Age 61, retired Colonel, widower of Honoria and Constance Mustard, and father of Emily Peach.”
“I’m quite busy today.” Colonel Mustard says, “Can you please tell me why I was brought down here.”
“I was informed that you murdered your second wife, Constance Olivine-Mustard, AKA Francesca Thorn and I would like to know if that is true.” Commissioner Forest says
“It most certainly is not.” Colonel Mustard says, “I’d never kill anyone.”
“Expect Donald Yarrow,” Commissioner Forest looks over the file
“I was sentenced to ten years in prison for his death.” Colonel Mustard says, “I paid the price for my actions.”
“A bit of a short sentence if you ask me.” Commissioner Forest says
“I didn’t ask you.” Colonel Mustard says standing up, “And unless you have a justifiable evidence to put me in prison for killing my late wife, then I will be carrying on with my day.”
“Colonel,” Commissioner Forest stops him, “Have you heard of the Black Widow?”
“What?” asks Colonel Mustard
“Over the past seven years there have been reports all over the United Kingdom of women’s husband’s turning up dead after having an affair.” Commissioner Forest says
“I don’t read the newspaper very often.” Colonel Mustard says
“We still haven’t found her.” Commissioner Forrest says, “But when I first met you I knew I was close.”
“What exactly are you implying?” asks Colonel Mustard
“Nothing,” Commissioner Forest says, “Just a theory. Have a good day Colonel.”
-FLASHBACK- THREE DAYS AGO-
The front door of the Mustard Home opens at a tremendous force. The door slams into a picture, which falls to the floor with the sound of cracking glass. Miss Peach proceeds into the house angrily. The door closes behind her as she throws open the Study doors.
“What the hell do you think you are doing?” Miss Peach crosses her arms and taps her foot on the floor
“Hello, Emily,” Colonel Mustard sits as his desk typing at his typewriter
“Uhh, hello daddy?” Miss Peach throws her arms up in annoyance, “I repeat: what do you think you are doing here?”
“I’m writing a little more of my Memoirs.” Colonel Mustard says, “It’s coming along a lot more smoothly than I had anticipated.”
“Why did you leave the hospital?” Miss Peach asks
“Laying there in that bed reminded me of who I am.” Colonel Mustard says, “I had to get out.”
“What are you talking about?” Miss Peach asks moving a stack of books from the sofa to the coffee table.
“Emily,” Colonel Mustard turns around from his desk and faces her, “I murdered someone years ago.”
“Why are you telling me this?” Miss Peach asks after a moment of awkward silence
“Because the murders have started up again.” Colonel Mustard says, “Rumors might start and I don’t want you finding out from one of those gossiping women.” He motions to the houses on the street.
“Why?” asks Miss Peach holding her head as she sits down
“Because that would be a horrible way to learn about your father’s past.” Colonel Mustard says
“No,” Miss Peach shakes her head, “Why did you murder someone?”
“Fear.” Colonel Mustard says, “He knew something and I feared that if it got out I would be over.”
“Well, I found something we have in common.” Miss Peach says uneasily
“I beg your pardon?” asks Colonel Mustard
“Murder.” Miss Peach sighs
“You’ve murdered someone.” asks Colonel Mustard as he turns from his typewriter
“Growing up without a father ruined my life.” Miss Peach says, “All I ever wanted was to be loved by a man. It all started when I was fifteen. I met a man. His name was Ernest Zaffer. I loved him so much. But he was married. I knew I could romance him. I booked a ticket on the cruise she he and his wife would be on. I trusted that he would love me. But when I confronted him he told me that I was a child and children know nothing about love. I don’t know what came over me, but I shoved him and he fell from the ocean liner to his death. To my advantage there was rough weather so they assumed he fell to his death.”
“You killed a man because he didn’t love you?” Colonel Mustard asks
“Love does crazy things to you!” Miss Peach says, “The other’s deserved it too.”
